Indonesian Agatised Fossil Coral

 

Agatised Fossil Coral is collected from pits and
trenches dug in the jungle and along streambeds.

In most areas the underlying coraline limestone
has been weathered away leaving only the
hard agate replaced upper crust of the
ancient reef as cobbles
and boulders in soil.
Only the most agatised coral with clear
fossil pattern is selected and portered
to the village
On arrival at our Warehouse, the coral is washed
and resorted again as "Whole Specimen" pieces,
high yield "Grade A" Lapidary Rough
and "Grade B" Slabbing Rough.

Grade B Slabbing Rough is processed in our
warehouse at Alpha Dua.

The porus reject is cut away and the well agatised fossil portion is sawn producing high quality, high yield lapidary slabs for export. Small slabs are set aside for custom cabochon orders.

Agatised Fossil Coral can exhibit a wide range of natural colors from white and pink to golden yellow.
Corals vary widely within a single stone depending on weathering/oxidation and original mineral content.

Its difficult to match polyp pattern size as every fossilized piece is uniquely preserved.
